Gentlemen Clodbusters
The Clodbuster Base Ball Club was founded in 1989. With a handful of volunteers from Carriage Hill Farm (located 15 miles from downtown Dayton) and help from the Ohio Village Muffins, the team set out to re-create our national pastime as it was played around the time of the American Civil War. The Clodbuster nine has traveled near and far to play base ball as it was played in the early years of the sport. Their travels have taken them all around the Great State of Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, as far east as Long Island, NY, and as far south as Natchez, Mississippi.
The bulk of our schedule comes against other 19th Century clubs, and we make up the rest with charity events, festivals and private functions. We take pride in not only teaching the grand 'ole game, but also in teaching others about the origins of our nation's pastime.
Lady Clodbusters
In deference to a growing desire for healthy outdoor recreation among women, the Lady Clodbusters embark on another season. They have been practicing in their leisure time, and are ready to show they are the best team north of the Ohio River. Ladies base ball has not been very popular, for we don't want to see our women injure themselves. If they would who then would look after our children, cook our meals, and do the laundry? There are also opinions that the woman's place is in the home, and that base ball is just a way for them to stick their foot in the door so to speak. If this continues what is next, the right to vote?
For whatever reason, we will continue to make sure our ladies have every available opportunity to make themselves healthier. The Lady Clodbusters are well versed in the rules of base ball, and are prepared for any opponent in the 2011 season.
